SPOTLIGHT: Leaving the Zone

When Dorothy found herself in "Oz" she also found her mission. It was a simple yet universal mission.  Her mission was to get back "home".

The beautiful thing about deciding on your mission is once you do, kindred spirits (in earth suits) will show up to help you achieve your goal.

It could be the Wicked Witch of the West, The Lollipop Gang; Glinda, the Good Witch of the North or even 'men in search of a heart, courage and brains. Good, bad or indifferent,  folks will show up to rock your world.

In every journey, your first step will take you outside of your comfort zone.  Once you leave the safety of your known world, you will embark on an "adventure" even if it's only an odyssey of the mind as Dorothy encountered.

Dorothy learned she didn't have to go any further than her own backyard for the adventure or even to find "home" for that matter.

This is also the truth we all learn after having a conversation with our Higher Power.

As one of my wise friends says "when you pray, you will get an answer" even if the answer comes in the form of your own personal tornado.

One thing we know about a tornado is it will shake things up to say the least.   The tornado will rearrange not only your world but the world of others.   You will inevitably step on a few toes - or in Dorothy's case  drop your "house" on someone's beloved family member.

The Wizard of Oz  is  allegory to help us to see how we are made whole from destruction. What we believe to be true is snatched from us and replaced with a better view of the wide open terrain. In Dorothy's case Oz...

When we embark on this adventure our goal is always,  let me repeat,  always, to return home.  The interesting thing about home is this :where is "home"?   Well, for those of us who haven't figured it out yet here is what  Glinda, the Good Witch of the South  in THE WIZ told Dorothy :

"Home is a place we all have to find, chile.  It's not just a place where we eat or sleep,

If we know ourselves we are always home anywhere..."~Charles Smalls

Home is knowing and honoring your own power.  Not your pastor's power, not your parents' power not even your favorite athlete's power....HOME is trusting the power within you.

Once you are home it is then you are able to operate from a place of authority...
